The Embassy observed the National Mourning Day 2016

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Tehran observed the National Mourning Day on 15 August 2016 with due solemnity at the Chancery premises.

The Day’s programme started with the hoisting of the national flag at half-staff in the morning by H.E. the Ambassador. One minute silence was observed to pay homage to the departed soul of the Father of the Nation including those who embraced martyrdom on 15 August 1975. Later, a discussion meeting, dua-mahfil, an exhibition of some rare and historic photographs of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and screening of a video documentary entitled ‘সোনালী দিনগুলো’ were organized at the conference room of the Mission. Discussants in their speeches remembered with great respect and gratitude the role of the Father of the Nation in leading the nation to independence. They also highlighted various aspects of the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also the contributions made by the members of his family. H.E. the Ambassador recalled with great respect and admiration the role of Bangabandhu in unifying the nation by his clarion call for the independence. Outlining Bangabandhu’s relentless and untiring efforts in the process of the nation rebuilding in war ravaged new born Bangladesh, the Ambassador called upon all to take fresh vows to play their role sincerely in advancing socio-economic developments of the country from their respective positions and thus repay everyone’s debt to the Father of the Nation.

Messages given by the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister and the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs on the occasion were read out at the beginning of the discussion meeting. Special prayers for the salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs of 15 August as well as for the peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh were offered. A 3-day long exhibition of a number of historic photographs of the Father of the Nation was inaugurated by the Ambassador by placing floral tribute to his portrait. Members of staff of the Mission including a number of expatriate Bangladesh nationals were present at the programme.

Bangladesh Ambassador visited Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Ambassador AKM Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan paid a visit to the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on 24 July 2016 on invitation by the University authorities. During the visit he was given tours to the School of Dentistry and the Tehran Heart Centre – two prominent faculties of the University. After these tours he had a meeting with the Vice Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs Dr. Ali Arabkheradmand at his office. In the meeting, the University authority presented a brief history including other important aspects of the oldest and the most well-known medical center in Iran. The Vice-Chancellor also outlined TUMS’s activities in the vast areas of academic and research fields in connection with health science and services. He praised the students of Bangladesh who are at present pursuing higher studies in medical science at TUMS on scholarships provided by the University.

Revisiting the contribution of Bangladesh doctors during Iran’s much demanded need to fill-in the sudden vacuum in health services in early 80’s of the last century, the Ambassador informed them about the scholarships the government of Bangladesh has been offering every year for international students including Iran in medical science and dentistry. On his request to consider more number of scholarships for Bangladesh students at TUMS, the Vice-Chancellor instantly declared that the University, from now on, would offer five more seats for Bangladesh apart from the existing ones on the Ambassador’s recommendation.

The Head of the Scholarship Council of TUMS Dr. Niknam, Director of International Affairs and Development Dr. Enayet A. Shabani, the undersigned, one journalist from the Bangla Service of Radio Tehran, two students of TUMS were present during the visit among others.
